HDIS | Using FSA or HSA Card for Incontinence Supplies
How to Use FSA or HSA Card for Incontinence Supplies
What is FSA and HSA?
Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is an arrangement through your employer that lets you pay for many out-of-pocket medical expenses with tax-free dollars.
Allowed expenses include insurance copayments and deductibles, qualified prescription drugs, incontinence products, between others.
Health Saving Account (HSA) is a type of savings account that lets you set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical expenses.
By using untaxed dollars in a Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and some other expenses, you may be able to lower your overall health care costs.
Can I use FSA/HSA to get incontinence products?
Simple answer is yes!
FSA and HSA spending accounts CAN be used for incontinence products and other health supplies. FSA/HSA funds must go towards expenses for items that are medically necessary.
The best way to provide this proof is to get an “incontinence diagnosis” from a medical professional. With a doctor's confirmation of your condition, it is easy to provide documentation (if necessary, in case of an audit) to your FSA/HSA plan.
* Incontinence supplies are not eligible with a dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA) or a limited-purpose flexible spending account (LPFSA).
